Firsts

Here are pictures of some of the many firsts we've had lately!

First time on the swing!

Daddy & Baby Aly swingin'

Mommy got in on the action too

Love at first swing ;)

First time down the slide!...
just kidding, we don't have a solo slider just yet

Fun time sliding with Mommy!

Almost as fun with daddy ;)

And you can tell from this picture
who she really has the most fun with

Daddy's girl, just like the shirt says

She doesn't quite get that not everything goes in her mouth

First time in the high chair at a restaurant!
(Again, please see the previously noted caption
about things going in her mouth)

First time using a sippy cup!

We jumped the gun on this one a bit

But it makes for a good teething toy :)
We have lots more firsts coming up soon, so be on the look out!

5 & 6...Time Flies Quick!

Once again, here I am a whole month behind...The posting gods are foresaking me.
I think that maybe I should just go for every other month posts & if I some how find myself with lots of time on my hands (Alyssa laughing at me as I type this) I will post a monthly edition.

So baby girl just turned 6 months yesterday!  Half a year!  Man how time flies...
I'm still working on that time freezing machine.  I've got it down to that it should be remote style, or should it be an app on my android?...hmm, decisions decisions.  Any who, I'll work the kinks out & when I do baby girl will freeze in her miniature rolly poley size and I will do the coolest happy dance ever known to man.
On the off chance that said freezing remote/app does not come to life like it has in my imagination these photos & blogs will have to do the job of freezing these stages forever in my memory.  So let's get on with it shall we?

Here is my 5 month old peanut!  Notice the thighs & chipmunk cheeks that she has so fashionably acquired.  They are perfect for sweet pinches & kisses from Mommy, Daddy, Grandmas, Grandpas and the like.

Here is our half-a-whole-flippin'-year old!  Can you believe it?!

Uh oh, Baby Girl already loves shoes...Daddy's wallet is in trouble ;)

Not too many smiles once I took her shoe away
This was the day before her 6 month bday
We had a little photo sess in the cutest, most appropriate bloomers

Dear sweet Alyssa Kate, You are packing on "firsts" by the minute!  Your dad & I are having so much fun sharing these new experiences with you.  You seem to soak up each new experience & I swear that there are moments you're thinking, "look at me, being a big girl!".  I just know that crawling is coming soon, and I'm bracing myself for the ride that you'll be taking me on next (or should I say, race?).  You sit up with ease.  I'm still a bit cautious & pack the pillows around you because you haven't quite figured out that just because you want that toy that's way over there doesn't mean that you can get to it without a bump of the noggin.  You have decided that sleeping on your back's for babies, and as soon as we put you down you roll to your right side or all the way to your stomach.  You have scared the mess out me several times because you seem to enjoy sleeping arms out and face planted into the crib mattress...thus causing me to panic-strickenly run into your room going through the steps of CPR in my mind ready & willing to perform them on you.  Your dad & I watch you on the monitor perform all sorts of flips & somersaults when you're supposed to be sleeping, turning that adorable orange crib into an exciting playpen instead.  You are still talking up a storm.  You've finally given us something other than high pitched squeals to listen to and you've now graduated to the cutest baby babbling ever.  Sometimes when you're babbling along with a toy in your mouth, you know like most babes do, it sounds like you're saying words.  It makes me stop what I'm doing and look up to see if it's a true word...even though I know it's a tad early for that, but who's to say that my baby isn't going to be a genius??  You are still proving to be quite the party animal.  You seem to be comfortable no matter where we take you.  You will let just about anyone hold you so long as they understand that you will be pulling & tugging on them and attempting to put their hair, buttons, earrings, & even fingers in your mouth.  You have started to prefer mommy or daddy's arms whenever you've just woken up or you're getting sleepy.  And when someone is holding you and they get too close to mommy or daddy you seem to have this epiphany of, "wait a minute...why are you not holding me??".  The other night we went out with my family & after a few minutes of being held by a couple relatives you reached for your daddy for the first time.  It wasn't too noticeable to everyone else, but as moments go this one is one your daddy will hold dear.  You are sleeping through the night like a pro.  Nights in the Culpepper house consist of bath time around 9pm (which is usually when you appear to start getting tired), then story time where daddy picks out a book & reads to us, then daddy walks you over to the crib and squeezes you one last time then sets you down while mommy leans over and kisses you twice on the cheek & whispers goodnight, you then roll over and start playing with your glow worm until you fall asleep.  Some nights you fight your sleep a little more than others, but for the most part it's an easy routine we've got down.  You've started to turn back over & watch us leave the room and some nights this results in loud cries (usually when you've decided that you were just kidding when you rubbed your eyes & you weren't actually ready for bed) but others it's like you're just making sure we're really gone so you can start your baby crib du soleil.  It's no surprise that you're so good at the flips n' such because if you're not sitting up you are constantly trying to pull yourself up.  You commence with what I like to call your pilates routine.  I'm surprise we haven't started seeing baby abs popping out of that tummy with the rigorous pilates regimen that occurs on a daily basis.  Your naps have finally gotten longer, but only for everyone other than mommy.  Just like right this very moment when I thought I'd have at least an hour to finish this post you decided to sleep for a mere 20 minutes followed by another 20 of playing...but not sleeping.  So I guess my posting time is up.  Back to reading rhyming books, singing funny songs, & making silly faces all to get a million dollar smile out of the beautiful babe I call mine.

It's Five O'Clock Somewhere

A month or so ago a good friend of ours was planning a trip to Playa Del Carmen for the week to stay in his parent's condo inivited us to join!  So me, Chase, & my pump went to the beach!  It was an amazing trip filled with lots of eating, drikning, sunning, & lots of time with my main squeeze (Chase for those of you who thought for a minute I might be meaning Alyssa).

Though leaving Miss Alyssa was not at all easy and pumping every 4 hours...standing up in an airport bathroom or in the back seat of a rental car was in a word, interesting; the trip was well deserved & needed time for Chase & I.

They give you chips & these little squirt bottles
full of yummy sauces

First meal.  Best fuzzy nachos I've ever had :)

About to eat some amazing tacos

Thankfully we did lots of walking

Because we did lots & lots of this

A very fun night at a club called Coco Bongo
Can you tell we threw our cares away? ;)

Beautiful dinner on the beach

These breakfast burritos were worth waking up for!

Chocolate Crepe

Chocolate Mousse

Someone caught a pic of Chase & I frolicking on the beach

Another wonderful night on the beach

It was such a great time to remind me that I am not just a milk machine, spit up catching, poop wiping mother; I am also a 20-something fun loving lady with a super cute hubby who shows me a good time all the time.

Snip Snip!

Some of you may know that baby girl was rocking a serious business in the front, party in the back hair do...rather hair don't.  That's right, a mullet.  Chase & I struggled with the thought of getting her hair cut at such a young age.  Who needs a hair cut just a few short months after being in utero??  Well the answer to that would be Miss Alyssa.  It was my sweet, honest Aunt Toni who finally said what I am quite sure everyone else was thinking..."Yeah you probably wanna cut that".  And cut we did!

If any of you know Chase you know that he gets his hair cut regularly & he is a bit particular about who cuts it.  He has found a girl he likes & he sees here every other week, calling ahead to make sure she'll be there.  So when we decided to take the plunge & have baby boo's hair did we knew just who we'd want to do it.  So we packed up our bags & tissues (maybe that was just me) and we headed to the fanciest place in town, Great Clips in the Kroger shopping center in Katy, Tx.

It was a family affair.  Chase got his hair cut for our upcoming vacation to Mexico while Alyssa refused to look at the hair style books with Mommy & instead napped in her car seat.  Then her time was up.  Chase so cutely showed her off to his hair stylist as she woke up with some serious bed head.  Miss Caroline snipped away while Mommy sniffed away tears & instead snapped photos of baby's first hair cut.

Ready??

Here we go

Uh, I dunno about this Dad

Mom?

Ooh who's that pretty girl with a sassy new do? ;)
So Mommy was a little distracted by the shear shock that we were really cutting baby girl's hair for the first time & forgot to get a before and after.  But trust me when I say it is adorable.  Just a trim in the back to give her back her cute little bob hair do that she wears so well :)
